Dunn’s River Falls es uno de los tesoros nacionales de Jamaica. A nivel mundial, es tan conocido como reggae e igualmente estimulante. Hay pocos lugares donde el nombre de Arawak "Xayamaca", tierra de ríos y manantiales, es más apto. Los españoles llamaron al área "Las Chorreras", las cascadas o resortes y es realmente uno de los lugares más hermosos de la isla.

Las cataratas del río Dunn tienen una historia interesante porque se cree que fue el sitio de la famosa batalla de “Las Chorreras”, librada en 1657 entre españoles e ingleses por la posesión de la isla. Los españoles llamaron a la zona "Las Chorreras", que significa "las cascadas" o "manantiales". Los ingleses ganaron la batalla y, bajo el dominio británico, "Las Chorreras" pasó a ser propiedad de Charles Pryce. Posteriormente pasó a formar parte de la propiedad Belmont de 276 acres, que fue adquirida por el Gobierno de Jamaica en 1972, para prever el desarrollo futuro de instalaciones recreativas y de parques.
