Playa Cabarete, located on the north coast of Puerto Plata, is considered one of the main tourist destinations of the Dominican Republic. Featuring a magnificent bay with good winds most of the year, it was discovered in 1984 by Canadian Jean Laporte for its excellent conditions for kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and other water sports.

The town has a very relaxed lifestyle, with a large foreign population coming from places as far away as the Nordic countries, Europe, North America and other latitudes. Playa Cabarete is the center of the village of the same name, as life revolves around the beach and its numerous restaurants, bars, hotels, sports, villa and condo rentals.

Iconic places like Lax, Bambú, Casita de Papi, Miro`s, Onno`s, Mojito Bar and many others have given Cabarete a unique style, a unique blend between South Beach and Ibiza. During the day, the beach is a colorful mix of kitesurfers, laser boats, windsurfers and paddleboarders in the water; at night, people gather around the bars and nightclubs, in a rare and beautiful mixture of many cultures.
